1. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

Personal information you disclose to us

In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us.

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on the Services, express an interest in obtaining information about us or our products and Services, when you participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise when you contact us.

Personal Information Provided by You. The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the products and features you use. The personal information we collect may include the following:

  • email addresses
  • usernames and display names
  • passwords, which we store only in hashed form
  • date of birth, gender, city, and a short biography
  • interests and travel preferences
  • a profile picture
  • the trips you create, the itineraries you build, and your requests to join other trips
  • the messages you send to other users through the Services
  • the reports you send about a profile, a trip, or a message

Your profile and your trips are visible to other users of the Services according to the settings of the Services. We do not show your email address to other users.

Sensitive Information. We do not store sensitive information ourselves. The identity document and the selfie that you submit for identity verification are processed by our provider, as described in the identity verification section below.

All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.

Google API

Our use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Social logins

In Short: If you sign up or log in with Google or Apple, we receive a limited set of profile information from them.

Our Services offer the ability to create an account and log in using your Apple account. Where you choose to do this, Apple sends us your email address, which can be a private relay address, your name if you agree to share it, and a stable identifier for your Apple account. We store this identifier so that we can recognise you on your next visit. We never receive and never store your Apple password.

Our Services also offer the ability to create an account and log in using your Google account. Where you choose to do this, Google sends us the following information:

  • your email address, and whether Google has verified it
  • your first name
  • your Google profile picture
  • a stable identifier for your Google account, which we store so that we can recognise you on your next visit

We never receive and never store your Google password. Because Google confirms that your email address is verified, accounts created this way do not require a separate confirmation email. If an account already exists for that email address, signing in with Google links the two so you can use either method.

We use this information only to create and operate your account as described in this notice. You can remove your imported profile picture at any time from your profile settings, and you can set a password to sign in without Google.

Identity verification

In Short: Our provider Didit checks your identity document and your selfie. We keep only the result and a few details from your document.

To confirm that the people on the Services are real, we ask you to verify your identity. You complete this step in a session run by Didit, which acts as a data processor on our behalf. In this session you submit a photo of an identity document and a selfie. Didit processes these images and their biometric data. We do not store them.

When the verification succeeds, Didit sends us your first name, your gender, and your date of birth as they appear on your document. We store these details on your account, together with the identifier and the status of the session. Learn more in Didit's privacy policy: https://didit.me/privacy-policy.

Push notifications on the mobile application

In Short: If you turn on notifications, we store a token that identifies your device.

The mobile application asks for your permission before it sends notifications. If you agree, we store a device token and use it to send you notifications about new messages, requests to join your trips, and answers to your requests. We send them through the push service of Expo, which acts as a data processor on our behalf. You can turn notifications off at any time in the settings of the application or of your phone. We then stop using your token.

Information collected from other sources

In Short: We receive information from Google, Apple, and Didit only. We do not buy data about you.

We receive information about you from the providers described above when you choose to use them. We do not obtain information about you from public databases, data brokers, or marketing partners, and we do not use your information for targeted advertising.

2. HOW DO WE PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short: We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We process the personal information for the following purposes listed below. We may also process your information for other purposes only with your prior explicit consent.

We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with our Services, including:

  • To facilitate account creation and authentication and otherwise manage user accounts. We may process your information so you can create and log in to your account, as well as keep your account in working order.
  • To verify your identity and keep the Services safe. We process your information to check your identity, to handle the reports and the blocks that users send, and to act against abuse.
  • To provide the features of the Services. We process your information so that you can create trips, find travel companions, send requests to join trips, and exchange messages.
  • To communicate with you. We send you emails about your account, such as the confirmation of your email address, and notifications on your device when you turn them on.
  • To save or protect an individual's vital interest. We may process your information when necessary to save or protect an individual's vital interest, such as to prevent harm.

4. WHEN AND WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

In Short: We may share information in specific situations described in this section and/or with the following third parties.

We may need to share your personal information in the following situations:

  • Business Transfers. We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.
  • Analytics and Session Replay Providers. With your consent, we share usage data with PostHog, which acts as a data processor on our behalf. Learn more in the Analytics and Session Replay section below.
  • Service Providers. We share information with the providers that run parts of the Services on our behalf, as data processors. They are Didit for identity verification, Expo for push notifications, Brevo for transactional emails, and Sentry for the monitoring of errors. Sentry can receive technical data and account identifiers that appear in an error report.
  • Other Users. Your profile, your trips, and the messages you send are visible to the users for whom you make them visible.

ANALYTICS AND SESSION REPLAY

In Short: With your consent, we use PostHog to understand how our Services are used and to improve them. We never record the content of your private messages.

We use PostHog, a product analytics and session replay tool, to measure how visitors and users interact with our Services (for example, pages viewed and features used) and, through session replay, to reconstruct recordings of user interactions (such as clicks and navigation) so that we can diagnose issues and improve usability.

Where your data is processed. Data is processed on PostHog Cloud hosted in the European Union (EU region). PostHog acts as a data processor on our behalf. Learn more in PostHog's privacy policy: https://posthog.com/privacy.

Legal basis — consent. We only start analytics and session replay after you have given explicit consent through our consent banner. You may decline, and you may withdraw your consent at any time. No analytics or session replay data is collected before you consent or after you withdraw your consent.

Privacy safeguards for session replay. We mask all form inputs and the text of private messages, so the content of your conversations is never captured in session recordings. We also do not include message content in the analytics events we send.

What we associate with your account. When you are logged in, we send PostHog a pseudonymous account identifier and non-identifying attributes (such as whether your account is verified and your preferred language). We do not send your email address or username to PostHog.

Retention. Session recordings are retained for 30 days and analytics data for 12 months, after which they are deleted or anonymized.

5. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short: We keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Notice unless otherwise required by law.

We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax, accounting, or other legal requirements). No purpose in this notice will require us keeping your personal information for longer than the period of time in which users have an account with us.

You can delete your account at any time in the settings of the mobile application. We then delete your account and the data linked to it from our database.

When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize such information, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.

6. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?

In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.

We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk. You should only access the Services within a secure environment.

7. DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MINORS?

In Short: We do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 18 years of age or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction.

We do not knowingly collect, solicit data from, or market to children under 18 years of age or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction, nor do we knowingly sell such personal information. By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18 or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction or that you are the parent or guardian of such a minor and consent to such minor dependent's use of the Services. If we learn that personal information from users less than 18 years of age or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction has been collected, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data from our records. If you become aware of any data we may have collected from children under age 18 or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction, please contact us at mirotrip.contact@gmail.com.

8. WHAT ARE YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS?

In Short: Depending on your state of residence in the US or in some regions, such as the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), Switzerland, and Canada, you have rights that allow you greater access to and control over your personal information. You may review, change, or terminate your account at any time, depending on your country, province, or state of residence.

In some regions (like the EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Canada), you have certain rights under applicable data protection laws. These may include the right (i) to request access and obtain a copy of your personal information, (ii) to request rectification or erasure; (iii) to restrict the processing of your personal information; (iv) if applicable, to data portability; and (v) not to be subject to automated decision-making. If a decision that produces legal or similarly significant effects is made solely by automated means, we will inform you, explain the main factors, and offer a simple way to request human review. In certain circumstances, you may also have the right to object to the processing of your personal information. You can make such a request by contacting us by using the contact details provided in the section "HOW CAN YOU CONTACT US ABOUT THIS NOTICE?" below.

We will consider and act upon any request in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

If you are located in the EEA or UK and you believe we are unlawfully processing your personal information, you also have the right to complain to your Member State data protection authority or UK data protection authority.

If you are located in Switzerland, you may contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.

Account Information

If you would at any time like to review or change the information in your account or terminate your account, you can:

  • Log in to your account settings and update your user account.

Upon your request to terminate your account, we will deactivate or delete your account and information from our active databases. However, we may retain some information in our files to prevent fraud, troubleshoot problems, assist with any investigations, enforce our legal terms and/or comply with applicable legal requirements.

If you have questions or comments about your privacy rights, you may email us at mirotrip.contact@gmail.com.

9. CONTROLS FOR DO-NOT-TRACK FEATURES

Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this Privacy Notice.

California law requires us to let you know how we respond to web browser DNT signals. Because there currently is not an industry or legal standard for recognizing or honoring DNT signals, we do not respond to them at this time.
